Experience in a panti wreda(recount text)

Hello, and welcome back! Today, I am absolutely delighted to share with you a profoundly touching and deep experience I had during a visit to the elderly care home (Panti Wreda). This meaningful activity took place last month, precisely on October 11, 2025. The time we spent there was truly invaluable, granting me deep insights and life lessons that have inspired me to become a better, more compassionate individual.

From this activity, we have also carried out one form of service of Mother Mary and also humility which has been carried out in the nursing home.

In the days leading up to the visit, we were meticulously reminded to prepare both our personal necessities and sincere and beneficial donations for the beloved elderly residents. We were also instructed to bring our writing equipment to carefully record our observations and reflections for a subsequent report. Furthermore, my peers and I ensured we would wear neat, appropriate, and respectful attire, showing our utmost reverence for the occasion. The next morning, I woke up around eight o’clock, as our gathering time at the care home was set for nine. I dressed in my most polite clothes and gathered all the required supplies.

Upon my arrival at the care home, I noticed that not all of my friends had reached the venue. Some were unfortunately hampered by traffic delays, and a few others were unable to join us due to illness. After a brief wait, we were ready to enter the premises. Inside, we were greeted by a serene and peaceful sight: grandmothers and grandfathers (Oma and Opa) sitting tranquilly in the central garden. We also observed the dedicated nurses tending to the residents with great care and patience, offering support to those who needed assistance. We then proceeded into the care home's spacious hall, where several grandmothers and grandfathers were already waiting for us with gentle anticipation and tenderness.

We immediately began setting up the planned activities in the hall. This included preparing colourful plastic balls and question cards designed to spark lively and cheerful conversation. Other friends focused on arranging uplifting songs and special performances meant to entertain our elderly hosts. Our accompanying teacher then graciously guided us to take seats close to the grandmothers and grandfathers, fostering a sense of close intimacy and connection. Meanwhile, another group of friends prepared nutritious refreshments, such as fresh dragon fruit and papaya. We officially began our program with warm introductions, clearly articulating the noble purpose of our visit.

The most engaging part of the day started with games we had carefully planned, such as passing the ball. The lucky recipient of the ball would be asked a friendly question. Some of the grandmothers and grandfathers, understandably, found it a little challenging to answer, perhaps due to their advanced age, but they participated with good spirit. Following the game, we enjoyed a short break to share the prepared fruits. We noticed that some of the grandmothers and grandfathers struggled to hold a spoon firmly. Seeing this, several of us tenderly and patiently helped to feed them, ensuring they could enjoy their meal with ease and comfort—a truly humbling moment.

The atmosphere brightened further and became full of joy as we all began to sing together. The grandmothers and grandfathers were visibly delighted and entertained. We even had a beautiful and unexpected moment when one of the grandmothers performed a melodious song in Mandarin, which was met with warm and hearty applause.

To conclude our precious time, we sang one last song together as a heartfelt final chorus. Our friends wisely prepared the closing ceremony with a collective prayer, acknowledging our gratitude for the day we had passed. After the prayer, we offered our sincere farewells, shaking hands with the grandmothers and grandfathers with deep respect before heading back home. The following day, we were given the important task of preparing a presentation detailing our experiences, personal reflections, and the profound life lessons we had gleaned from our visit to the care home. This experience taught us that kindness and attention are the most important assets in life.
